Fuck Roman Polanski

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I’m going to get very heavy here, guys. Possible trigger warning and all that. Consider this whole thing a big feminist rage dump. Do not expect coherency. Expect me to expect you to have a vague understanding of the circumstances.

Have you seen this? Talk about soul crushing. I already turned off my TV months ago for the umpteenth time. After seeing this, it’s almost certain it will stay off indefinitely. Granted, the wording of the petition makes it sound like this is an issue to the Hollywood elite because Polanski was arrested at a film festival, but you know what I say? If you have to go to a film festival to arrest a child rapist, then you go to a film festival to arrest a child rapist. This is bullshit.

Signing this petition is nothing short of supporting rape and I have lost so much respect for so many people already and yet the list continues to grow. Only in a rape culture could something like this be considered acceptable.

On that note, fuck you Whoopi Goldberg. What happened? What the fuck does it have to be to make it “rape-rape“? She was 13, he drugged her, she said “No”. Repeatedly. What the fuck does it haveto be to make it “rape-rape”, Whoopi?

Also, if I have to read one more fucking article that uses the words “sex with a minor” or “sexual intercourse” I will fucking explode. Would it kill you assholes to at least say “non-consensual”!?

Lastly, <3 @ Kevin Smith & Luc Besson. At least there are still some movies I can still watch without throwing up in my mouth.

Summer in the city

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I have to say, summer in Vancouver can be brutal. It may not get as hot as California, but here in Vancouver the heat is humid and, at least from my current position, seems a million times worse than Marin county ever was.

I don’t deal well with heat, unless I have a swimming pool or a beach within walking distance. It’s something that comes of being more than half Norwegian and the rest Scottish, German and Welsh. I’m not built for hot weather. This summer has been one of my worst experiences yet. There’s no pools closer than two bus rides, and no beaches either. Furthermore, deodorant and regular bathing seem to be foreign concepts in this city. The worst part is, being in a basement suite we should be cooler, but no! For some reason our suite is actually HOTTER than outside. I don’t know how that is even possible but we live in the hottest suite in the city, I swear.

Even after dark, the temp outside is barely dropping below 70, so I can only guess how hot it is in the apartment. I should get a thermometer but I just can’t bring myself to hiking around in the infero outside. Our only options for beating the heat here have been a dual window fan (which isn’t doing jack, really, except cycling the hot air) and spray bottles kept in the fridge, the latter of which has been leaving me feeling clammy. The way our suite is built, there’s only two windows that open in the communal areas and only one where we can fit a fan on the sill. My bedroom window opens as well, but it’s a weird little hanging hinged thing so there’s no room for a fan, the same goes for the laundry room window.

The worst part of this heat wave is that I can’t sleep hardly at all. I’ve been lucky to get 5-6 hours of sleep a night in the last week and I’m really starting to feel it. I haven’t been able to bring myself to exercise either but I guess I should just do it, at least then I’d sweat, right?

Ugh.
