One of P’s classmates loaned these to her, presumably because she is female. A quick Google search reveals that there seems to be a general misperception that this is a comic chicks will like. Especially feminist chicks.

For those who don’t know, the story centres on a young man named Yorick who is the last surviving human male after a plague wipes out every mammal bearing a Y chromosome. After this point, there will spoilers, but only minor ones because I don’t care too much to go into detail about the plot.

Overall, the whole work reeks of male privilege and entitlement. The author has clearly never taken the time to listen to a woman about anything, let alone how we would most likely respond to such a catastrophe as losing all the males of our species.

Within the first 20 or so pages we meet an ex-model who bemoans her lost status as an object of male desire. She also tells our ‘hero’ about the murder of her ‘tranny’ boyfriend by the ultra-feminist Daughters of the Amazons. See, that right there. Big strike. I would hope that someone who was in a relationship with a trans man would have picked up the knowledge that use of the word ‘tranny’ is a big no-no. It would be one thing if Yorick or another character had used this slur, but the girl in question was dating a trans man. She should know better, and so should the author.

The only homosexual characters in the story are either convicts, violent personalities and/or mentally unstable. These types of characters are also portrayed as having below average intelligence, as shown by the Amazons spelling abilities. The former also applies to the only females who appear to be capable of doing anything besides feeling sorry for themselves. Meanwhile, the well-adjusted women spend their time trying to protect the hapless and chauvinistic Yorick or falling in love with him. Then there’s the fact that the dialogue of every female character is laden with so many stereotypical tampon, period, ice cream, vibrator and women-don’t-fart cliches that you know this author has never taken a second to listen to anything a woman has said.

Just FYI: smiling and nodding is not the same as listening.
